We present a case of MSO in a 50-year-old female who presented with a pelvic mass, characterized by suggestive imaging findings. Imaging of the tumor did not present the usual features of struma ovarii, yet the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) scans indicated thyroid colloids within the solid portions. Solid components demonstrated hyperintensity on diffusion-weighted images, and conversely, hypointensity on apparent diffusion coefficient maps. Surgical intervention encompassed a total abdominal hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, and omentectomy. In a histopathological study of the right ovary, MSO was identified, correlating with the pT1aNXM0 stage. The location of the restricted diffusion on MRI scans precisely mirrored the distribution of papillary thyroid carcinoma tissue. Ultimately, the presence of imaging findings suggestive of thyroid tissue and limited diffusion within the solid component of the MRI could imply MSO.

Studies reveal significant knowledge and practice gaps in genetics/genomics for NGHPs, yet a unified understanding of the precise knowledge required for effective genetic service provision remains elusive. Clinical genetics professionals, genetic counselors (GCs), offer keen insights into the pivotal genetic/genomics knowledge and practices needed by NGHPs. This study analyzed genetic counselors' (GCs) stances on the role of non-genetic health professionals (NGHPs) in delivering genetic services, and it also detailed the crucial genetic/genomic knowledge and clinical practice aspects that GCs believe are vital for these professionals. Among 240 GCs who completed the online quantitative survey, 17 were chosen for a further follow-up qualitative interview. Cross-comparisons and descriptive statistics were applied to the survey data. Using an inductive qualitative methodology, the interview data were assessed for cross-case patterns. Genetic counselors, in their majority, held differing opinions on non-genetic healthcare providers undertaking genetic services, encompassing a broad spectrum of perspectives; from concerns regarding knowledge and practical skills deficits to acceptance, necessitated by the limited availability of qualified genetic professionals. Data gathered from surveys and interviews showed that GCs emphasized the need for non-genetic healthcare providers (NGHPs) to possess expertise in interpreting genetic test results, understanding the implications of these results, collaborating with genetics professionals, being aware of the associated risks and benefits of genetic testing, and recognizing the proper indications for genetic testing as critical components for successful clinical practice. Respondents presented several recommendations for bettering the provision of genetic services, including the need to educate non-genetic healthcare providers (NGHPs) in genetic services through the use of case-based continuing medical education, and the need for stronger ties between NGHPs and genetics professionals.
