Cannabis use, a growing concern, is linked to a surge in reported cases of Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS) since its initial appearance in medical literature. A growing number of specialists, including consultation-liaison psychiatrists, now routinely encounter this condition. CHS, a diagnosis of exclusion, is exemplified by the continuous use of cannabis, repetitive bouts of nausea and vomiting, and an insistent craving for hot baths. One can reasonably anticipate a commensurate increase in CHS cases as a result of the increased popularity and frequency of marijuana use since its legalization in the United States. This case report showcases a 36-year-old female diagnosed with CHS, whose compulsive behavior of taking extremely hot baths led to recurrent severe burns, sepsis, and intensive care unit (ICU) stays. In the authors' view, this constitutes the first published case report detailing severe burns and sepsis as sequelae of cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome.

Gout and pseudogout are two examples of arthropathies that originate from crystal deposition within the joints. We present a case of acute calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate (CPPD) arthritis, concurrent with a type 1 myocardial infarction (MI). The emergency department saw an 83-year-old woman exhibiting generalized weakness and edema in both her lower limbs. Inflammation of her left foot, notably more pronounced than on her right, presented with the hallmark symptoms of pain, swelling, redness, and heat. Cellulitis was tentatively diagnosed, and antibiotics were subsequently administered. A deeper investigation demonstrated elevated troponin levels, new-onset bundle branch block, and changes in the ST and T waves on the electrocardiogram, indicative of a type 1 myocardial infarction. In light of the patient's medical history, extremity imaging, the elevated inflammatory markers, and the characteristic pattern and distribution of the inflammation, the diagnosis was altered to pseudogout. Steroids and colchicine were implemented, leading to an immediate alleviation of symptoms. The present case exemplifies a possible correlation between pseudogout and cardiovascular disease, thereby emphasizing the imperative for additional investigations into this association. Although a rare occurrence, medical professionals should be cognizant of this link, notably for patients with a history of CPPD arthritis and the development of type 1 myocardial infarction.
The depth of tongue squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) invasion (DOI) plays a significant role in determining prognosis. This retrospective study included 58 individuals with clinically diagnosed tongue squamous cell carcinoma, stage I or II. All 58 cases, in addition to a subgroup of 39 cases having no superficial or exophytic lesions, were analyzed for correlations between cDOI and pDOI.
The pDOI median, at 55 mm, and cDOI median, at 80 mm, displayed a noteworthy 25 mm disparity, which achieved statistical significance (p<0.001). A correlation analysis revealed that pDOI correlates with cDOI according to the formula pDOI = 0.81cDOI – 0.23, with a correlation strength of 0.73. Furthermore, a deeper investigation of the 39 cases indicated a pDOI value of 0.84, corresponding to cDOI-037, and a correlation of 0.62. In conclusion, a predictive equation was determined, represented by pDOI = 0.84(cDOI – 0.44), for estimating pDOI from cDOI.

Considering the complex and largely unexplained origins of migraines, a range of social and biological risk elements have been proposed, encompassing hormonal inconsistencies, genetic and epigenetic factors, and issues associated with cardiovascular, neurological, and autoimmune diseases.
